It has been years since I was last a BellaBox Subscriber. Back in 2014, before cancelling my subscription, I received about 5-6 boxes. I cancelled because the boxes didn’t feel like they were personalised. While I understand that BellaBox has set products every month, they do have various colours of certain products that are distributed according to each person’s beauty profile. When you sign up for a subscription they have you complete a beauty profile where you tell them your skin tone, skin type, hair type, ect. All of that information, to me, felt like it wasn’t being used at all and was just a waste of my time because box after box was clearly made for only white people. I am African. They knew I had a darker skin tone, yet I was sent self tanner multiple times and received makeup that would never work on someone as dark as me. It may not seem like huge deal, but I was paying $15 a month for a full size product I couldn’t use and then 4-5 samples. It just wasn’t worth the money in the end. Since then, Australia has more brands available and bigger brands are working with BellaBox. I saw an ad on Instagram for their April box and the ad said every box came with a full size NYX palette so I thought I’d give them one more try.
My April box came with the following products:
A’KIN HYDRATING ANTIOXIDANT DAY CREAM AND REPLENISHING ANTIOXIDANT NIGHT CREAM | BLAQ HYDROGEL EYE MASK | PIXI SHEA BUTTER TINTED LIP BALM | NEUTROGENA MAKE-UP REMOVER CLEANSING TOWELETTES | NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP EYESHADOW PALETTE
Let’s start with the Blaq Eye masks. I only got one set so I don’t know if I’m supposed to see a difference after only one use but they were the gel kind which was nice and they stayed on my face well (unlike the Sephora ones I tried recently). I like these; I might buy these again and try them out for a week and do a full review.
A’kin Day and Night Cream. I’ve only used the day cream, and after using it I probably won’t use the night cream. It had a really strong scent (I’m used to the Ofra Wanderlush and that doesn’t have a scent) and I really didn’t like it. It made my skin tingle and it kind of felt like it was burning my skin. It’s quite expensive, so I don’t think I’d buy a full size one. I’m pretty happy with Ofra’s Wanderlush at the moment.
Okay, lets talk about the main reason I even bought this box. The NYX Palette. To be honest, I was really hoping I wouldn’t get the one I was sent. It’s not the usual colours I go for but I’m kind of surprised by it! I didn’t think the colours would show up on me at all, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. They black isn’t my favourite black, but I’m pretty happy with how my eye look came out. As soon as I saw that bright blue I knew I wanted to use it. It reminded me of the KKW x Mario palette so I was inspired by a look Kim ter Stege did. While I did like the palette, I just can’t believe the price. It is $34.95 AUD for 10 shades. In America it is $17 USD and if we were to convert that to AUD it would only be $22.56. I honestly don’t think that it is worth $35. If you are looking for a good palette with a pop of colour I would suggest Crush Cosmetics or Mermaid Salon. They have palettes that come with 35 colours for around $35. And in my opinion, they are much better quality.
I’ve never tried anything by Pixi, but I’ve heard amazing things. I wasn’t blown away by this lip balm, but it’s just a lip balm so I wasn’t really expecting much. I really like the colour and it’s probably as light as I would go with a lip colour. It is also pretty comfortable to wear. However, I 100% think this is over priced. $15 for a lip balm is crazy to me. I might try other things from Pixi, but I don’t ever see myself buying a lip balm from them.
And lastly I got a mini pack of Neutrogena Makeup Wipes. I used two to take off my makeup and they didn’t remove everything. I had to use my Garnier Micellar water to take of my eyebrows and the rest of the makeup that was left on my eyes. A full-size pack of these wipes (25 pack) is $8. That is a lot to me. Especially since I had to use my Micellar water to get what the wipes couldn’t get.
Also, for some reason they also gave me a sample of bandaids. I have no idea why they sent me two tiny bandaids, but I guess my son can use them if he ever needs them.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with what I got, but I would never pay full price for most of these items. They have improved since 2014 which is nice, and since I forgot to cancel my subscription, I was charged for the May box so I guess you’ll be seeing another BellaBox review in a few weeks!
