HOW TO WEAR BOLD LIPSTICK

I often get comments on my Instagram from people saying “I wish I could pull off that lipstick colour” whenever I wear something that isn’t a nude so I thought I’d write a post about it. I remember a few years ago when red lipstick was only worn on special occasions but now I have lipsticks in literally every colour imaginable. Β I literally wear blue lipstick to do my groceries.

Makeup is fun, it washes off at the end of the day. I feel like some people take it way too seriously. That’s why I get confused when people say they can’t pull off bold colours. You can make every colour work for you! Jackie Aina recently made a video called “Dark Skin Girls Can’t Wear NUDES! And Other Lies + Myths” and I absolutely loved it because she showed that anyone can wear anything they want. Another one of my favourite YouTubers, Nyma Tang, has made a few videos on how to wear Nudes and Brights.

My only advice on how to wear bold lipstick is to just do it. Don’t care about what other people think. It’s your face, if they don’t like it they don’t have to wear it. It is literally just makeup and you can wash it off whenever you want.

My love for bold lipsticks started a few years ago when I discovered Lime Crime (I’ve written about them a lot). The first thing I ever bought from them was their Clueless Witch Velvetine Collection which contained a dark brown, a vampy red and a deep, dark black. Those three lipsticks are still some of my all time favourites and I’ve repurchased them multiple times.
Since then, they’ve expanded their line with even more weird and bold colours. I feel like they started this amazing trend of wearing whatever colours you want!

My latest Lime Crime purchase is their new Slither Trio which contains three incredible shades; a metallic emerald green, an indigo blue and a deep purple-red shade. All of these colours are not what the majority of people would wear day to day so I thought I’d show you how I would wear them on a regular day.

Most of the time, whenever I wear bold lip colours I pair it with a brown/pink/orange matte eye look. I recently bought the Crush Cosmetics 35OM palette and it’s so perfect!

Here is the look I did when I wore the lipstick, Nightshade. This colour is really dark, but I feel like with this pinky eyeshadow, I don’t look too vampy in it (the bright orange wig probably helped!). I absolutely love dark lip colours like this, so it was an easy one for me to wear.

Next is Blue Flame. This one is a little more bold, but it’s a purple-blue so it’s not too out there. I did a brown/red/orange eye look with this shade and I think they pair well together.

Serpentina is the most bold colour of this collection and it is my favourite. I don’t know why, but I absolutely love green lipsticks. I couldn’t keep this look casual and paired it with an orange and green eye look. If you wanted to tone this down though, you could leave off the green on the lid and just do an orange look. Also, you probably don’t need the spider crown, I’m just in love with Halloween.

October is the perfect time to try out new looks so if you’ve wanted to try out some bolder lip colours, now is the time!
I hope this post helped at least one person who wants to try something new.

    Wow. You look awesome!
This post is really good, I struggle with bold lips. I’ve never felt comfortable in anything bolder than a mid-dark purple so this has really made me think… usually my biggest struggle is finding an outfit that doesn’t look strange with a darker or bolder lip x

I wear a lot of basic solid colour outfits so I never really have a problem with them matching. Thank you for reading! x

Wow! I’m impressed! I have only recently purchasing bolder colors to try out πŸ™‚ I am not a lipstick wearer much at all. Honestly it is hard to get used to wearing it after so many years of not wearing it haha I love the way it looks though β™‘

You mentioned miss Jackie Aina! I love you, we’re best friends now. But you know the first lipstick I picked up was a bold color. I thought if I’m going to wear lipstick I’m going to dive right in and go bold.
