DIY AVOCADO HAIR MASK

January 27, 2017

I am half African so my hair has always been quite hard to manage. I recently decided to stop straightening my hair and wear it naturally in protective hairstyles. The first thing I did when I made that decision was to do a hair mask. Avocados were on sale at the time so I thought, why not do an avo hair mask!

It’s really simple! All you need is

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • 2 TBSP Honey

Mash the avocado until it is smooth and then mix in the honey and olive oil! Apply it evenly thorough-out your hair (damp hair is best) and then leave it on for 40 min-1 hour under a shower cap and then wash your hair as usual.

Avocado is not only beneficial for your skin, but also has many benefits for hair as well! The oil of avocado is easily absorbed in the hair therefore it goes well with dry hair. I have quite dry hair so this mask is perfect for me and I feel has really helped. The Egyptians used avocado to promote hair growth, prevent hair loss and add shine to their hair. Because I have been straightening my hair for years, I do lose some hair so I’m hoping this will help combat that!

I’ve been loving this hair mask and I think my hair has been loving it too! If you use hair masks, let me know what your favourites are!

Last time I tried a diy facemask I ended up with Turmeric stains everywhere. At least avocado wipes up better!

Oh I haven’t tried an avocado hair mask! I love natural masks, I have waist length hair which I have been bleaching the ends of for several years so have pretty dry damaged hair. I find a mask made from mixing olive oil and egg yolk to be great for my hair. It feels moisturised and strong afterwards. You have to be super careful to wash it out with lots of shampoo and cold water otherwise you end up cooking the egg in your hair which is not ideal! #KCACOLS

I love eating avocado on toast but I’ve never thought about putting it on my hair! It makes sense considering all the good fats that are in them. #TwinklyTuesday

It all makes sense, now to be brave enough to give it a go. I do love avocados so I’d also be tempted to just eat it! #TwinklyTuesday
