KAYLA LOVES: MAGAZINES

March 11, 2016

I have loved and collected magazines for years! It started when I was about 5 and my mum got my sister and I a subscription to Sabrina’s Secret. It was a fortnightly magazine that came with a little makeup item. Then I started buying Totally Girl magazine when I was a little older and obsessed with Hilary Duff. When I was a little older I started buying Girlfriend and Dolly and I think that was when my magazine obsession started. I had hundreds of these magazines. I don’t even remember what I did with them all. I honestly think I just recycled them.
When I was a teenager I moved onto Kerrang because I was really into that type of music at that age. I got engaged when I was 18 so for about a year all I did was buy wedding magazines. I spent so much money on them and now they are all at my mum’s house in her shed.
When I was pregnant I didn’t buy too many baby magazines. I think I bought more books than I did magazine.

I now regularly buy three magazines. Frankie, Hooray and Fête.

2Frankie is a bi-monthly magazine about art, fashion, photography, interiors and more. I’ve been buying this for about two years now. My sister won a tumbr giveaway a few years ago and got every single issue of Frankie ever, which is pretty amazing.
Frankie also has an interior book that they release every now and then. I have issues 2 and 3. I would absolutely love to get my hands on issue 1 but they were very limited and completely sold out. They are for sale on eBay for over $200 so sadly I don’t think I will be able to get one.
One of the things I love about Frankie is that every issue comes with a poster and a calendar. At the end of the year they have a big issue! The last one came with post cards, posters, gift tags and beautiful letter paper. They regularly feature some incredible Australian artists including one of my favourites, Mel Stringer.
FRANKIE MAGAZINE – $10.50

Hooray is such an incredible magazine. I have every issue of Hooray! When I saw it at the newsagent I fell in love! I love magazines that have fun, colourful covers and Hooray always has that. It is also a bi-monthly magazine that focuses on the art of celebrating. It was originally named ‘Hitched’ and was mainly about weddings. They now cover all celebrations such as, birthdays, baby showers, engagement parties, ect. It also has beautiful party inspiration, DIY projects and yummy recipes. Sadly for me I won’t be able to add any more issues of Hooray to my collection as they are now only online (which is good, I just prefer to read physical magazines). Although they will be releasing a Mook (magazine/book) every year called Celebrate which I also love.
HOORAY MAGAZINE – $14.951Fête is the newest magazine I’ve added to my collection. It is an Adelaide (my home town) based magazine. Every issue is so different. This is currently my favourite magazine to read. It is full of beautiful interiors, styling tips, and amazing recipes.
My favourite thing about Fête is their kids issue! It was full of adorable clothing, little decor items, room styling tips and birthday party inspiration! They also do a Christmas issue which I absolutely loved! The style of their last Christmas magazine was the same style I was going for with my theme so it was just perfect! I really feel like Fête is just a magazine for everyone. I always pre-order this one (they offer free shipping in Australia which is a bonus) and would recommend it to everyone.
FÊTE MAGAZINE – $14.95

What are your favourite magazines? Are there any you would recommend to me?
Thank you for reading!

I love Magazines too. Although I have stopped buying them as much as I have moved to the online world although as you said it is always better a physical magazine. I love interior/deco magazines and also gossip ones lol. I’m nosey so love reading about celebrities sometimes. When I was back at home (in Peru) my mum used to buy a magazine called “Cosas” which has a little bit of everything but the most fun part was to read the social section featuring people that were at certain parties or events. So it was fun trying to spot people we know. Aww I think now I feel nostalgic about that magazine, lol Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. I would love to see you again on Sunday! 🙂 x

I can’t help but look at the price and think oh that’s so much money but then I think of exchange rates and it’s probably not all that expensive haha. These all look like great magazines. I’ve never really been that big into Mags, I’ve bought Cosmo a few times and a health magazine for recipe inspiration but other than that…I am a book and blog reader 🙂 #kcacols

A lot of the supermarkets here make their own magazines with recipes and diy projects and they’re free (which is amazing), so I always grab those. But yes, things are quite expensive in Australia.

They look like some good collections of magazines. I used to read magazines all the time but now I find I have replaced them with blogs. I need to get back into reading some magazines 🙂 #KCACOLS
